What happens when Hoosiers gain an hour for the daylight saving time switch?
It could mean a later bedtime, or an earlier start to Sunday if you don't sleep in. It could just mean you're a little confused about when the sun will go down for several days. But if you believe Eerie resident Marshall Teller, what happens during that hour is a little more daunting.
Today's youth might be more familiar with Hawkins or Pawnee, but in the early 1990s, another fictional Indiana town was featured in the series "Eerie, Indiana," which was something of a horror show for kids. Early '90s heartthrob Omri Katz, of "Hocus Pocus" fame, starred as Marshall, a 13-year-old who moves to Indiana with his family.

Things in Eerie are a little... well, you get it. As Marshall adjusts to his new life, in one episode he's bummed to learn that Indiana doesn't fall back for daylight savings time (he'd been hoping to negotiate another hour of TV before bed).
Did Indiana observe DST in the 1990s?
In the episode, Marshall complains he's been "ripped off an hour of my life." Marshall's dad tries to explain why Indiana doesn't fall back, including that "farmers say the cows would be confused."
And that may be at least based in fact. According to previous IndyStar reporting, legislators from agricultural areas fought a 1949 bill that would have adopted the time change, saying it was "unnatural" and "unhealthy for cows."
Daylight saving time finally came to Indiana in 2005 with a bill sponsored by then-Rep. Gerald Torr, R-Carmel, and signed by then-Gov. Mitch Daniels.
What happened in 'The Lost Hour' episode of 'Eerie, Indiana'?
In this episode, Marshall sets back his watch anyway. When he wakes up, his house is empty, as are the streets of Eerie. Finally, he comes across three ominous trash collectors wearing dark clothes, sunglasses and combat boots, who do not speak.
Others he encounters include a 105-and-a-half-year-old milkman whose truck isn't quite what it seems; and a girl whose face locals have seen on milk cartons for the past year. The rest of Eerie assumed she ran away, but she's actually been stuck in this alternate dimension since the last time clocks moved back elsewhere in the country.

What city is Eerie, Indiana, based on?
One theory, according to previous IndyStar reporting, is that it's based on Muncie. In the show, Marshall says his father moved to Eerie to study it as the most normal city in the United States. A claim on Wikipedia says that concept could be based based on sociological reports Middletown Studies, which took place in Muncie.
